Working at Hands For Hunger
Founded during the summer of 2008 by a group of university students, Hands For Hunger is a Bahamian food rescue organization committed to the elimination of hunger and the reduction of food waste through the creation of meaningful and engaging partnerships formed amongst all sectors of the Bahamian community. Each day, our fleet of Hands For Hunger refrigerated trucks are on the streets of New Providence collecting fresh surplus food from local food establishments, and in turn within hours, delivering this food to over 18 social service agencies across the island.
We strive to inspire an unprecedented shared sense of social and environmental responsibility amongst citizens, who, individually and collectively, come to realize the power of their own contributions.
At the same time, Hands For Hunger is working to increase the access that low-income Bahamians have to nutritious food by partnering with other non-profits, businesses, farmers, The Bahamian Government and target communities to establish improvements to local food systems that will benefit residents long into the future.
Hands For Hunger's food rescue program currently helps to feed an estimated 8,000 Bahamians each week and so far, we have delivered over 350,000 lbs of food to our agencies and prevented approx. 400 tonnes of CO2 emissions from entering our atmosphere.
We are a young, energetic and fast-growing organization with big plans and lots of ideas. Our environment is casual, flexible and heavily TEAM BASED. At the same time, we are a non-profit organization with an important mission and very important responsibilities to the members of our community- which we take very seriously. We are looking for someone is first and foremost, committed to making a difference in the world, full of passion and integrity, and secondly, someone who is able to bring something valuable to the team, competent and eager to learn in the areas where he or she might not already be experts in.
