Paradise Plates 2009

Paradise Plates Serves Up and Unforgettable Night

This past Saturday, May 23rd, Hands For Hunger presented our inaugural annual fundraiser- Paradise Plates. The entirely sold-out event was held in the Atlantis Crown Ball Room and served-up an unforgettable evening to the more than 400 hundred guests who came out in a large show of support and raised over $60,000 to help fight hunger in The Bahamas.

Featuring 13 of the island’s top chefs, the unique evening delighted guests with an incredibly lavish array of exquisite cuisine, outstanding fine wines, dazzling décor and a spectacular ensemble of entertainers.
Guests in attendance dined on creations such as: shrimp and grouper cerviche with serrano chilies, tomatoes, mango and plantain chips, by Mesa Grill; roasted pumpkin soup with coconut compote by Balduccino’s; lobster and mango salad, and wonton stuffed with curried chicken by Old Fort Bay Club; and Ribbons of tuna, avocado, radish and ginger by Dune. Nobu served black cod on butter lettuce and Goodfellow Farms offered guests golden gazpacho, balsamic beef tenderloin bites and guava toast. Desserts included a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce and compote of fruit by The Patisserie, an island snow fantasy by the British Colonial Hilton, and guava duff with rum butter sauce by Compass Point. The fine wines served were Noble Aconcagua Chardonnay 2007 and Noble Aconcagua Malbec 2007 donated by Mendoza wine Imports.

Musical entertainment throughout the evening was provided by Adrian D’Aguilar, Ben Pinder, Trio Bonjour, Christina Cartwright, Caribah and Anthony Mullings who played a mixture of jazz, string trio, Caribbean Jazz, calypso and classical music. A raffle and Silent Auction held during the event also helped to raise funds.

“We are incredibly pleased and grateful for the extraordinary success of Paradise Plates,” said Georgina Webster, Director of Fundraising for Hands For Hunger. “The biggest kudos for the evening goes to the Chefs, vintners and beverage participants who were so accommodating and gracious and served exceptional cuisine, fine wines and drinks. Everyone in attendance was treated to a remarkable evening that went beyond expectations and we thank each and every person that supported Paradise Plates.”
